The Municipality of Guimarães has just launched the “EcoQuiosques RRRCICLO” project, an innovative initiative that will transform six municipal kiosks into spaces dedicated to the repair, reuse and recovery of materials, promoting the circular economy and sustainable local entrepreneurship.
As part of Guimarães’ distinction as European Green Capital 2026, this project aims to upgrade kiosks currently without a concession, encouraging the creation of businesses aligned with circular principles – from repair and sewing workshops to barter markets and product rental services.
The kiosks will be awarded through a competition, with members of the jury evaluating the six best projects. Each winning project will be entitled to free use of the kiosk for the first two years and will be exempt from paying fees, as a way of supporting the initial investment, namely the costs associated with rehabilitating the kiosks, and encouraging the viability of circular businesses. After this period, the contract can be renewed annually up to a limit of 15 years.
